Safari for Windows, its official
Its official, Apple will be boosting its browser market share by releasing Safari for Windows. Apple announced this at the WWDC event in San Francisco this afternoon. It was speculated upon back in January, and is now a reality.Currently Safari accounts for about 5% of users, all Mac. It is reportedly twice as fast as IE7, and 1.6 times faster than Firefox 2. If the speed alone hasn't hooked PC users to test the Beta out, think about the user interface, easy bookmarking features, and private browsing abilities.
But most of all, you want to bring some friendly Mac attitude to your PC, check out the Beta version of Safari for PC now. Its available now for Windows Vista, and XP users. What will Bill Gates think about this?

"...What will Bill Gates think about this?"
He'll sue Apple, then threaten corporate IT people with shut down if they even think about using trying out Safari. Then sue some more people. Then threaten some others.
If you can't innovate, legislate!

Why?
If Firefox is better than Safari on OSX, why not use Firefox on a PC as well? And Safari will blatantly disregard the Windows GUI just like iTunes does.

Yeah, but really. It's super fast to load pages. I did a comparison of loading CNN on both browsers and Safari beat Firefox 2 by a mile. It's the bookmarking system for Safari I don't like...

If It wasn't so damn ugly, and made use of more than 2 mouse buttons (no middle button click to scroll or back/forward at present) it may be useful. I admit the Webkit is rather snappy at displaying web pages but I can't stand the interface.
And the last thing we need is more bundled shit installed on our computers. I really hope they leave it optional when installing iTunes.

Seems like the only website my Safari works with is Apple's own homepage. Crashed about 15 times and I've only been _trying_ to use it for an hour.

There are more impressions about Safari here (http://www.tolocation.com/wordpress/index.php/4/going-on-safari) if you don't want to download it quite yet.

Just curious: have those that compared Safari to FF optimized FF for fast loading? There are several about:config entries you can use, or plugins that do the same thing, to make pages load faster (but perhaps be a bit more abusive to your net connection and/or the server). I don't remember them all, but I've definitely tweaked some of the "wait" constants to do with caching before rendering starts and stuff like that. Of course, I already don't have problems with pages not loading fast enough, plus I've really settled into FF over the past few years...

It looks like my post from above has moved to here: http://www.standandcount.com/index.php/going-on-safari-7 . It is now up to 3 parts with more impressions on the release and the software.
